This day A cable has been received stating that all those who left Australia to form a “ New Australia” in Paraguay, South America, hare arrived in good health and have taken possession of the land selected for them. They appear to be delighted with the country and are perfectly satisfied with the site granted.

The Legislative Assembly have passed a resolution to the effect that the sendiug of H.M.S. Katoomba to Samoa is an infringement of the Defence Act. The Premier has given notice to rescind the motion. The Government have agreed to the rearrangement of the electorate names and boundaries.

MELBOURNE, This day The Victorian Racing Club has refused to renew the license of Cusdcn, the ex-New Zealand jockey. An influential deputation has asked the Government to subsidise the Vancouver line of steamers, and to make Melbourne the port of call. The Premier, in reply, advised the deputation to make a definite proposition, and promised until that was done the Government would not come to any decision in the matter. He added that the colony was not

in a position financially to make experiments in promoting trade. BRISBANE, This day The Minister for Lands expects to have everything ready by the end of next week for the people to go on the land in co-opera-tive communities. The Postmaster-General reports that the reduction of the postage rates between Queensland and Great Britain has resulted in a loss amounting to nearly £SOOO per annum. HOBART, This day The House of Assembly has reduced the salaries of the President of the Council and the Speaker of the House from £4OO to £250. The proposal to reduce the payment of members from £SO to 5a was rejected by 14 to 12. A proposal to reduce the salary of the AgentGeneral was also negatived.
