(OWN correspondent) The moetiug called by the Mutual Improvement Association on Tuesday evening resulted in a motion being carried that “ the session be terminate® without any demonstration of any kind. The subscription inaugurated by tbs Rev. C. L. Tuke for the benefit of Mr R. Sporle has met with generous sponse at the hands of the public, 15s being netted. Present—Messrs C L Macki*r sey (chair), J. C. Simpson, E. Simpson, Hodge, Morgan, Downes, A. Jones, Gibertson, Rathbone, L. Mackorsey and W. Smith. Proposed by Mr Gilbertson, seconded by Mr Jones, That all the officers of the club be re-elected. Carried. Proposed by Mr Gilbertson, seconded by Mr Jones, That Mr Downes be appointed auditor. Carried. The secretary then read the rules as revised by him, and they were adopted. On the motion of Messrs Gilbertson and Jones, the minute of the former meeting re the club joining the Hawke’s Bay Cricket Association, was confirmed. Messrs Downes and Gilbertson moved that Mr C. L. Mackersey bo appointed captain. Mr Mackersey declined with thanks, and stated that it was impossible for him to play in every match ho thought the best plan would be for the playing team to elect their captain on each occasion on the ground, and that the matter of appointing a permanent captain bo allowed to stand over for the present. The following were appointed a match committee :—Messrs C. Mackersey, Davis, Hodge, Rathbone, Canning, C. Herbert, and Dr Godfray ; three to form a quorum Mr Hodge was appoiutod practice captain. Accounts to the amount of £7 10a 81 were passed for payment. Proposed by Mr J. C. Simpson, seconded by Mr C. L. Mackersey, that all members of the town club be allowed to become members of the county club |*ithcut the formality of being balloted for ; carried. A batch of 20 iDteudiog members wore then proposed by Mr Hodge, seconded by Mr C. L. Mackersey, and wore admitted us members. Proposed by Mr A. Jones, seconded by Mr Gilbertson, that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to Messrs Hodge, C. L. Mackersey, and. Davis for the energy which they had displayed iu getting the ground ready for the coming season, and the attention which they had given to all details calculated to make the club a success ; carried unanimously- A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the business.

The Rev Mr C. L Tuke gives a magic lantern entertainment to the scholars of St Mary’s School iu the school room this evening. The small charge of Id will bo made for all children other than those of St Mary’s Sunday School. Mr Tuke’s magic lantern entertainments are too well known to need any comment from me ; suffice it to say that the youngsters are looking forward to a genuine evening’s amusement, in which they are not likely to be disappointed.
