At the close of the day’s play the Australians had lost three wickets for 263 runs. The principal scorers were Lyons 134, Bannerman (not out) 67, G. Giffen 49, Bruce (not out) 5. BRISBANE, Yesterday Sir Thomas MHlwraitli denies that the colony’s Treasury bills are to be offered for one year at 4£ per cent, and and he says that if they are not placed at the original price they will probably be withdrawn. He also states that the Government can carry on at the present rate of loan expenditure for the next eighteen months, and during that period large sales of land in the west district would probably be effected. Sir Samuel Griffith reiterates the statement he made to the Adeluide interviewer regarding the attitude of the Bank of England.
