Wellington, This day The police have withdrawn the charge if murder against Raines, and proceed on , charge of manslaughter. Mr Gully will .ppear for the Crown. The Wellington team for the champion thletic meeting will be—Gurr, 100 yards o half mile ; K. Gore, 120 yards hurdles md high jump ; Batger, hurdles and long ump; C. Cooper, mile ; Hume, pole-jump. The Rev. Mr Mayers, who is escorting he party of boys from Dr. Barnadoe’s Lome, gave an address and entertainment n which the boys took part last night, Sari Meath presiding. There was a large ttendance despite wet weather. This is he first of a series of meetings. Raines was again before the Court this aorniog, on a charge of murdering Henry Irawford. Mr Jellicoe appeared to pro ecute on behalf of Mrs Crawford. Mr Ikerrett, for the accused, objected on the ;rounds that the former had no locus lamli as Detective Campbell is the infor3ant. Ultimately the case was put back ntil two o’clock to enable the Inspector > consult the Crown Law Officers.
