KAIKORA.

(own CORRESPONDENT.) A break at last in our dullness, Mr Ben B. Johnson the popular knight of the hammer visited us on Wednesday last and held a sale of timber, every stick of which he sold at prices satisfactory to the vendors, who I believe intend to send a further consignment for sale in a few weeks. The trustees of the Rechabite Hall intend having a concert and ball in aid of the building fond on Friday, 26th September, due notice o( which will shortly appear in your advertising columns. Both concert and ball I expect to see well patronised, as I hear that the charges for admission are, for the concert 2s and Is and for the ball 5s for double ticket, refreshments provided, and a string band in attendance, if you can go one better than that in Waipawa I’ll pass. The contractors for the improvement on the County Club Racecourse are getting well on with their work and will have it completed in about three weeks, the training track, I believe, will soon be put in order so as to enable owners to wind up their horses for the coming carnival. Our population is gradually getting smaller and beautifully less. Mr Hans Pedersen, cabinetmaker(whom your readers may recollect was burned out three months ago) having left us to settle in Taranaki ; so that there are now about 15 empty bouses at present at Kaikora. May that soon be remedied is the earnest wish of all the residents here.
