MAKOTUKU.

(own correspondent).

The entertainment in aid of the Norsewood Relief Fund came off on Friday evening last. The attendance was not quito as good as one would have expected, considering the object for which it had been got up. The proceeds amounted to about ten pounds. I hear that the same programme is to be repeated at Danevirke next Friday evening for the same purpose. We are going to have a change in the head teachers in some of the schools heie at the end of the present month. Mr Wolstenholme leaves Norsewood for Pingland, Mr Webber from Ormondville taking his plac, and Mr Westall from Takapau has been selected from twentythree applicants by the Ormondville Committee to take Mr Webber’s place. Mr Westall had been in temporary charge of the school beforo, aud was very well liked by the people of the district. The notice put in the papers calling for tenders for the re-building of the Norsewood School and teachers residence put contractors to some trouble aa it said that the plans were to be seen with the Chairman of the Makotuku School Committee, when it should have been Norsewood.

Those of us in this part of the bush who knew Mr Harwood were very sorry to hear ol his death.

The old Beaconsfield hotel is being removed from the station yard and reerected in the shape of a public hall. I hear that it is to be open free of charge for the first twelve months, I suppose in opposition to the present hall. A harvest thanksgiving service will be held in the Church here ou Thursday evening next. The Rev. Mr Parkinson from Napier wil preach the sermon.
