Rambles in the Bush.
Concluded. Leaving Mrs MeFjeods homestead you reach Renata To Pewas pah. Pukehou which consists of a very good dwell jug house recently built, with several pahs and small out-buildings attached. The, land here is of a pretty fair quality, and the hills here arc much richer than those further up. Leaving ihe pah, you turn to the right and follow the bush passing one or two, bush gardens of the Maoiis ; the first garden contains pumpkins and potatoes etc., the next consists of nothing hut tho Maori tobacco plant, which is hung np up and dried, and is then twisted in tight pieces. A little further on you come to the old mill ground belonging to Mr Matthews. All the whares which used to he around the mill have been burnt down by the bush fires, and it now looks a desolate place, but the land is of a good quality. About a mile further, passing through nothing but dead bush, you reach the Canoe clearing from where I commenced.
Some day when 3 r ou are short of newi I will write *; Rambling on the plains”
