Says the Wellington Times of January -l Ith:—A slight passage at-arms occurred during the hearing of the civil case, Chalmers v. Wellington Meat Company, in the Resident Magistrate’s Court on Saturday. Mr Izard, senr., was addressing the Bench on behalf of his client, when suddenly Mr Jellicoe rose and objected to a statement which Mr Izaicl had just made, whereupon the latter gentleman said, “ Why don’t you learn the rules of your profession, sir ? You evidently do not know them, or, if you do, you wilfully abuse them.” Mr Jellicoe proceeded to state what his objection consisted of, and said that he was mereiy looking after the interests of his client. “ When Mr Izard made statements totally at variance with facts ” Mr Izard here strode up to Mr Jellicoe and in a very indignant tone said, “ But they are not at variance with facts, sir.” Mr Wardell here interfered, and after sundry allusions by both gentlemen to “ ungentlemauly conduct,” “gross impropriety,’’ &c., peace was at length restored.
