Major Tucker, of the Salvation Army* who was arrested here last month whilo parading the streets, has been sentenced to a month’s imprisonment, and four of his colleagues have been fined. Syi>ney, March 9. The Austral has been stripped of tho cofferdam, and is now ready for docking. March 12. The steamship Austral is now safely at anchor at her old moorings in Neutral Bay, where she sank in November bast. Mr Redmond, the Trish agitntor, held a meeting at Bathurst on Saturday evening. The proceedings were quite orderly. The sculling race at Grafton on Saturday between Rush and Laycock for £IOOO ami the championship of Australia* resulted in an easy victory for Layeock by four lengths. The handicap race was won very easily by McDonald. Melbourne. March 7. Parliament stands adjourned uutil April 3rd. The return match between the Hon. Ivo Bligh’s team and an eleven of Victoria commenced to-day. The home players went first to the wickets, and when the stumps were drawn tho score stood at 213, with 7 wickets down. The hiuhest contributions were—Bonnor 54, Scott 29, Iloran 37, Midwinter 55 (not out). The bowling and fielding of the Englishmen were excellent. March 1 The Anglo-Victorian cricket match resumed to-day. The Victorian * continued their first innings, which cl for a total of 284. Midwinter play splendid innings of 92, not out. M'Sliane Rcored 27. The Englishmen went in for their first innings, and when the stumps were drawn had put together only 47 for the loss of seven wickets Tire weather was showery during the day, and play was occasionally stopped. There was a large attendance of spectators, by whom tho greatest interest was tukcu in the
