of blood, with good bone and immense power, and has proved himself a good horse on the turf. At the Canterbury meeting in 1870, won the Grand Stand Handicap, 1 mile, in 1 min. 50 secs., carrying Bst. Tibs., beating six others in the same year ; won the ITawke’s Bay Stakes, 2 miles, in 4 min. 4£ secs., beating Fishhook and the Maori Weed.

The Australasian, in speaking of the Sir Hercules blood, remarked : “No family has gained such a reputation as that which descends from the colonialbred Sii Hercules. In contests of every description the representatives of this line have achieved more than their share of popular triumphs, from the time Mr Tait carried all before him with old Cossack (brother to Waimea), down to the present season, when Kingsborough, Dagworth, Melbourne, Reprieve, Sterling, Fitz-Yattendon, Valentia, Calumny, Ring wood, and many others with a dash of the old blood, carried the owners’ colors to the fore in some of the hardest tussels of the year.” Teums—Six guineas each mare. Sir Charles is a beautiful bright bay, 4 years old, stands 174 hands high, is strong, active, and good tempered, with great flat bone, and splendid feet, and is a perfect model of the breed.

This splendid animal was bred by J. D. Ormond, Esq., M.11.R., and is out of Lady by Prince Charlie, a horse that gained first honors every time he was shown, and is acknowledged by breeders to be one of the best horses that ever crossed the line. More of his progen}' have turned out prize takers than that of any other horse ever in the colony. Lady is by Lord Eglinton (imported) out of an imported mare.

Sir Charles lias been shown four times, and each time carried off first prize ; he has also proved himself a sure foal-getter, not having missed once last season. Terms : £5 for single mares ; two or more the property of the same owner, £4. Groom fees, ss.

All mares must be paid for and removed by Ist January. Paddocking- will be provided for one month, after which a charge of 2s Gd a week will be made. All mares missing this year will be served half-price next season. All mares left at Mr Pettit’s, Waipawa, and Mr Partington’s, Te Aute, will be forwarded free of charge.
