London, December 1. Thiee percent consols, exdivklond. The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Ilritian is 2,000,000 quarters. The total stock of tallow in London is 13,625 casks. At the wool sales to-day 7700 bales were catalogued. The tone of the market is firm, with an active demand. For low scoured prices are ruther weaker. Washington, December 3. President Hayes has recommended to Congress the withdrawal of the Legal Tender Bill. St. Petersburg. December 2. An unsuccessful attempt lias been made on the life of the Emperor of Russia, who arrived at Moscow yesterday. The train following with the baggage was blown up, and seven carriages completely destroyed. Fortunately nobody was injured. The perpetrators are unknown, but it is the undoubted work of Nihilists. The Emperor, in reply to a deputation presenting a congratulatory address, thanked God for his escape, and appealed to the aid of his subjects in exterminating sedition. Later. The carriages which exploded were not railway cars but ordinary baggage carriages following the Emperor in the streets of Moscow. Sydney, December 3. The Government havo rewarded the constables who captured the bushrangers. The trial of the gang is adjourned until Monday. An application for postponement till next session, on the ground thut public opinion is against the prisoners, has been refused. The s. s. Strathlevan, which arrived here a short time ago, filled up with patent meat-refrigerating apparatus, is about to sail for England with a shipment of frozen beef and butter. The result of the experiment is looked forward to with u great deal of interest, especially by the squatters.
