Siren For Ambulance. A siren has been fitted to the Cambridge St. John Ambulance this week to conform with the road regulations. The siren, which cost £l4 was ordered eight months ago, has only recently arrived. * * * * Voting Paper for Loan. The borough solicitor, Mr D. J. Lundon, submitted to Wednesday night’s council meeting an amended draft copy of the voting paper to be used in connection with the poll of ratepayers on the £32,760 loan proposals for water supply and street improvements to be taken early next year. A copy of the voting paper is to be sent to the Loans Board for approval. *■* * * Duck’s Unusual Egg. A duck on the farm of Mr A. Penfold, at Pukeroro, occasioned some surprise this week when it laid a real outsize in eggs. The surprise was even greater when the egg was opened and found to contain another egg inside, complete even with shell.

Control of Abattoir. It was stated at Wednesday night’s council meeting'that in all probability finality would be reached next month in connection with the transfer of the municipal abattoir to five local butchers for control The council considered the position was satisfactory to all concerned. # # * # Hill Climbing Championship. The 350 c.c. New Zealand grass hill climb championship decided recently at Tauwhare by the Hamilton Motor Cycle Club was won by G. Bunyard, a youthful Hamilton rider, who is a grandson of Mr and Mrs F.C. Bunyard, of Cambridge. Bunyard was also placed in two other championship events decided on the course. # * * * Offer of Tree. Expressing her indignation that the elm tree in Victoria Street had been wantonly destroyed, a local resident offered another tree to replace it, in a letter received at Wednesday night’s council meeting. It was decided to accept the offer with thanks, although it was stated that the poisoned tree was recovering.
