BOATING CLUB’S DANCE

ENTHUSIASTIC ARRANGEMENTS

The second Annual Presentation Dance., sponsored by the Cambridge Boating Club will take place on Wednesday June 29. Music will be supplied by the De Luxe Orchestra, and everyone is assured of an excellent evening. Every effort is. being made to ensure that this year’s function is even more successful than the one last year. EVENING AT MONAVALE f MANY GIFTS RECEIVED A very enjoyable gift evening was held in the Monavale hall recently in honour of Mr Bert Todd and Miss Millie Pentelow, who are to be married shortly. The Monavale Settlers’ Association and the Table Tennis Club were jointly responsible for the arrangements. In asking the guests of honour to accept the heavily laden table of gifts, Mr J. E. Fancy remarked that Mr Todd held- the office of chairman of both the. Sbttlers’ Association and the Table Tennis Club at the present time and he had always given very freely his assistance to both the organisatons . Miss Pentelow was also one of the staunchest supporters of any of the district activities, and it was with the very best wishes for their happiness that he asked the guests of honour to accept the gifts from the district'. Musical honours were accorded the guests of honour when Mr Todd rose to reply.

Songs by Mrs Waite, Miss Pat Uttinger and Mr Epps and elocutionary items by Mr George Goodwin were heartily applauded. Music for dancing was supplied by Mrs Hollier and extras were played by Mrs C. Todd,' The duties of M.C. were in the capable hands of Mr Frank Smith. The novelty waltz was won by Miss Dawn Foster and Mr C. Christiansen.

After the very delicious supper had been served by he ladies of the district dancing was continued until a late hour. Among those present were:—Mesdames C. Todd, H. Spence (Te Awamutu), J. A. GIFT EVENING

KARAPIRO COUPLE HONOURED

A wide circle of friends and relations gathered recently at. the Karapiro Hall to honour Miss Pat Collins and Mr E. Newcombe, who are to be married iyThe young couple were recipient of many beautiful and useful presents. Mr P. C. Keeley in asking them to accept the gifts, mentioned the esteem with which the two young''people were held in the district. Mr Newcombe suitably replied, and musical honours were accorded them.

Miss Joyce Keelly presented Pat with a shoulder spray while Mrs Newcombe' and Mrs Collins were presented with posies by Mary Wattam. Dancing was continued until midnight, when the singing of Auld Lang Syne brought a very enjoyable evening to a close.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

FENCOURT MEETING

There was a good attendance of members at the June meeting of the Fencourt Women’s Institute. The president Mrs Low thanked all members for their help with the court at the Waikato Winter Show, presenting sprays to those members responsible for the arranging of the court.

Following the conclusion of the meeting, the 14th birthday was then- celebrat ed. There were a large attendance of visitors from Cambridge, Roto-o-rangi, Maungatautari, Taotoaroa, Karapiro, Hillerest and Gordonton Institutes and Cambridge Womens Division. The birthday cake, very prettily iced, was decorated in icing with the Institute emblem, the “Raupo” and surmounted by 14 candles. The past-presidents lit the candles and they were then blown out by the visiting presidents. The Federation vice-president, Mrs Piper after extending birthday greetings and congratulating members on winning the Shield at the Waikato Winter Show, cut the birthday cake.

The president, received pretty floral tributes from visiting presidents. A special feature of the programme were items by the Childrens Ballet Club under the direction of Miss Zoe Sinton.

Those taking part were:—Christine Gow, Collen Millar, Julian Litchwark, Dianne Ansell, Judith Benn, Faith Buttimore and Joan Worthing. The following programme was very much enjoyed.:—Recitations in costume, Lenore Bourke; Sketch “Over the back fence” by members; Songs in costume, Mrs Maitland; Musical Sketch “Hie-'jig-a-jig” by members; Ballets, “The Dream Book”; Songs Miss Elizabeth Treves-Browne; Mime, “The Jumble Stall” by members; Ballets “To a miniature”.

The stage had been decorated to represent a garclen. The afternoon teatable had been arranged down the centre of the hall and a delicious afternoon tea was served by the hostesses.

The singing of the National Anthem brought a happy birthday party to a close.
