Resolutions Carried Concerning Land Acquisition
The burning question of the acquisition of land was discussed fully at the annual conference of Federated Farmers (Waikato Province), speakers on the subject including Messrs W. N. Ferry, G. A. Walsh, S. Smith, F. C. Johnstone and J. K. Ludbrook. The following resolutions after lengthy discussion were carried unanimously:— (1) "We believe adequate land would be offered for rehabilitation at current market value and are op-" posed to compulsory acquisition. (2) "Our policy is that any land be sold at current market value. (3) "The federation is prepared to give full support to any farmer whose lands is to be taken by compulsion. (4) "We support financial assistance to returned men provided the community pays and not the farmer
alone. (5) "We pledge ourselves to give every assistance to rehabilitation on the above conditions. (6) "We maintain that Crown and native land should be made available for rehabilitation purposes."
