Smiley Burnette's Exploding Alarm Clock
An exploding alarm clock, invented by cowboy-comic Smiley Burnette, is featured in Columbia's "Eiders of th,; Lone Star," in which Smiley stars with Charles Starrett. The film, latest in the "Durango Kid" series, is currently showing at the Tudor Theatre. The clock, activated by a heavy spring and innumerable hingers and catches, flies apart with a loud BANG to waken Smiley, who plays the part of a sound sleeper.
In real life, Smiley is just as sound a sleep as his screen character, and he invented the clock in his home workshop to be sure of getting to the studio on time.
