It takes film tastes a few years to recover from wars, and to-day tliey are just beginning to assimilate Second World War subjects whose primary object' is entertainmyiit, writes Harold Heffernan. "Command Decision" and "Fighter Squadron," running very successfully through box-office test tubes, have stimulated many new films based on the same premise. For example at Twentieth CenturyFox, where the news nose of Darryl Zanuck is always picking up hot scents, five war stories are in the making. They are "I Was a Male War Bride," "12 O'clock High," "From the Halls of Montezuma," "New Guinea Incident" and "Three Came Home." This is the script situation typical today in all studios. It required about five years after the conclusion of the First World War for such films to become popular, but now it appears that the public cool-off period has shortened a little.—
