Excellent Rounds By Club’s Leading Players

A feature of the Stableford bogey played on the Cambridge golf links on Saturday was the outstanding scoring by the club’s three leading players,'Max Sing, (last year’s champion) Bill Ryan and Dave McCathie. With 38 points, Max Sing won the senior section, his medal round being 72-4-68. He was out in 38 and home in 34, the excellent second nine being assisted by remarkable putting. Finishing stylishly with four threes, Bill Ryan took second place with 37 points. His medal round was 72-3-69. Dave McCathie maintained his good form with a steady 73-3-70, which gave him third place. The winner of the Alford Cup bogey competition this month is likely to be one of these three players. His handicap has been reduced to 13, and it should be long before he leaves the “Devil’s number” to join the ranks of the seniors. Bill McElwaine has been the junior find of the season, and handicap reductions from 24 to 18 since opening day have not deterred him. On Saturday he turned on a round of 87-18-69, and the handicapper, Vern Hollis, has reduced him one more stroke to 17. Sharing second place with McElwaine, were Doug Calvert and Dick Ireland, all with 34 points. Calvert’s round of 85-16-69 was his second good effort this season, and his handicap has been lowered to 15. Ireland escaped the “axe” this time. Other good junior scores were: J. W.
