GROWING INTEREST IN HERD TESTING

Indicative of the growing interest taken in herd testing was the large number of farmers Avho met in the Horahora district at the annual meeting of the Auckland Herd ImproA»ement Association. Mr S. J. Sheaf, general manager, gave much helpful information to testing members and all dairy men present. Mr Sheaf mentioned the particularly good season for dairy farmers up to the end of March, this being greatly in excess of last year's production. Another topic of special interest to testing members was the comparison of the varying methods of testing cows. It had been proved satisfactorily, Mr Sheaf showed, that group herd testing results varied very little from those of C.O.R. and O.H.T. and to all intent and purposes, the group herd testing system was sufficiently accurate. * Mr D. O. Murray spoke briefly on the value of testing. A vote of thanks for the very efficient manner in which Mr Gordon Williams, the local testing officer, had carried out his duties over the last three years was carried by acclamation. Reference was also made to the good Avork done in research by Mr E. P. Neilson.
