WARRANTS OF FITNESS
MECHANICAL DEFECTS OVERLOOKED The issue of warrants of fitness after only a cursory examination of the vehicle by an unqualified mechanic is a matter which has been raised in several areas throughout the Auckland Province, states a bulletin frorti Federated Farmers.. A case can be cited where a motorist was prosecuted became of incorrectly adjusted headlights. This individual was not entitled to compensation from the garage responsible for the warrant of fitness although a mechanical defect had been overlooked. The position is that approved garages are licensed by the Minister to issue warrants of fitness and if it can be proved that a garage at any time is negligent or careless in the issue of warrants it is open for an application to be made to the Minister for the cancellation of garage licenses. This the Minister has power to do. Any specific instance where negligence can be proved should be taken up with the Minister of Transport.
