Strike Position At Mangakino Unchanged
There is no immediate prospect of an early settlement to the strike at Mangakino. The official attitude to the strikers is one of resistance, and a fairly long cessation of work is being prepared for. A union meeting is expected to be held within ’the next few days, when efforts may be made to secure another secret ballot on the strike issue. Sports events and entertainments were held during the week-end, and further fixtures are planned for today and tomorrow.
Warnings given recently of the dangers of children flying kites near power lines appear to have had little effect on some people. Many boys and girls have been seen playing with kites during the past few days, and not a few have been caught up in the telephone and power lines. Particularly in wet weather is this practide dangerous, as electricity will travel along wet string.
