Many people, unable to be present, sent apologies and they came from Messrs Geof. Sim and W. S. Goosman, M.’sP., A. Walker (Taneatua), R. Wallis (Wellington), L. A. Potts (Ngaruawahia), I. Fletcher (Canterbury), T. -D. Orminston, R. S. Alford, A. B. Baker, R. G. Morgan, Collins. Mr A. J. S. Richardson in his remarks prior to unveiling the Roll of Honour, remarked that the Karapiro, Taotaoroa and Whitehall districts had always been stalwarts of the R.S.A. and whenever a special effort was necessary these districts could always be relied upon to pull their weight. Speaking in reply and on behalf of the Karapiro l’esidents, Mr R. Newcombe congratulated Mr P. C. Keeley (chairman) on the splendid Roll of Honour. Referring to the names which had a decoration besides -them, he said, that in his opinion, the mothers and wives, who had stayed at home were all worthy of a decoration. Mr B. N. Garland, who spoke on behalf of the Taotaoroa settlers, drew attention to the high esteem in which our soldiers were held overseas, while Mr J. W. Jeans, Whitehall, mad,e mention of the friendships of the three districts. One could not help noticing that many of the names on the Roll of Honour were of sons and grandsons of the pioneers of the districts. He spoke appreciatively of the work of Mr Keeley and his committee in having the Roll of Honour erected. After supper Mrs Keeley, the chairman’s mother presented bouquets to Mrs Sim and Mrs Richardson and shoulder sprays to Mesdames Green. McKenzie, Newcombe, Garland, Jeans and to those wjio rendered items at the .concert.

A most appropriate concert constituted the first portion of the proceedings and those who contributed were: Songs, Mrs Fairweather, Miss 'Pat Uttinger, Miss Joyce Keeley, Mrs Maitland, Miss Shirley Edwards, Mrs Williams, Mr Russell Haydon; piano solo, Miss Jean Nelson; recitations, Miss Lois Miller; monologue, Mr Geo. Goodwin; ’cello solo, Mrs Williams. The members of the committee were Messrs F. C. Keeley (chairman), T. Greenhalgh, R. G. Wattam, K. D. Wills, G. P. Rose, E. H. Wallis, C. S. Lambeth. The sumptuous supper was in the capable hands of Mrs C. Fletcher and her assistants were Mesdames R Finn, R. Newcombe, C. Lambeth, D. Bruce, W. Sangster, ;G. Rose, K. Wells, J. Roigard, G. Walker, J.
