TRADE RELATIONS

CZECHOSLOVAKIA AND NEW ZEALAND PERMANENT SOURCE FOR IMPORT NEEDS As one of the greatest manufacturing countries in Europe, and dependent to a great degree dn the import of raw materials, Czechoslovakia is desirous of entering into long-term trade relations with New Zealand, and has already made provision for the appointment of a Consul-General in the Dominion to act independently of the Consul-Ceneral stationed in Sydney. This information was given recently by the present Consul-General for New Zealand and Australia, Mr Josef Memecek. Mr Memecek stated that in order to gain independence of economic fluctuation and crises, Czechoslovakia was trying to find as far as possible permanent sources for her . import needs, and permanent markets for her products. "We try for it not only to deepen systematically our trade relations with the .United States, the British Empire and France, but also with Australia and New Zealand," he said. "The content and volume of our 'imports irom New Zealand will be determined by the need to pay for such material by the export of manufactured goods. To facilitate such imports Czechoslovakia is endeavouring to renew trade agreement as well as monetary and credit agreements with such of the more distant states as possess sufficient raw materials.'' The Government of Czechoslovakia, he said, was a progressive labour one, representing all parties, and functioning on a policy of adjustments of differences. Its main purpose was to build up industry and trade.

French Fashion Magazines One result of the increase in trade between France a,nd New Zealand since tho war ended is the appearance in bookshops of a wide range of fashion and beauty magazines. Stocks are small, and prices are high, ranging from 5s 3d to' 22s 6d.
