Eighty-Six Year Old Resident to Fly The Tasman

QNE of the oldest identities of ths Cambridge district, Mrs E. C. Campbell, is to have a wish come true on Saturday next when she leaves for Australia in a Tasman Airways' plane. Recently it was the good fortune of her son, Mr J. D. Campbell, to win a large overseas consultation, and as soon as he became aware of his good luck he arranged to take his mother to see her relatives across the Tasman. It will be a double thrill for Mrs Campbell for she will see her relatives at Tamworth, New South Wales, and will cross the Tasman by air. Mrs Campbell is 8.6 years of age ,and she has lived over eighty of them in New Zealand. Accompanying Mrs Campbell and her son will be the latter's daughter, Miss Helen Campbell. They expect to be away two or three months. . • • * * * J±T the annual meeting of the Hora-: hora Tennis Club last week special mention was made of tbe foundation members in the late H. Osborne, who passed away last year. The late Mr Osborne had taken an active part in the Club since its inception in 1925. As their indcation of respect members stood in silence for two minutes.

]£ARAPIRO Hydro Works is at pre-

sent, and wiU continue to be, the No. 1 attraction for visitors in these parts. They come from all parts of the country and a sprinkling from overseas. As an indication this past week we have met visitors to Karapiro from Wanganui, New Plymouth, Central Otago, the East Coast and from America. Many organised parties are also visiting the works. On Saturday members of the Electric Power Supply Association, who have been attending the annual conference in Auckland, travelled to the works by special 'buses, the party consisting of about 70. After inspecting the Karapiro scheme the party went on to Arapuni. They were accompanied by Mr A. C. Caldwell, district engineer of the 'State Hydro Department, and other department officials. They were shown over the works by Mr W. A. S. Surridge, plant installation engineer.

Road, Cambridge, who has been holidaying in Auckland and New Plymouth has returned home.

jyfß and Mrs E.- E. Rivers, of Wainui Beach, Gisborne District, and until recently of Nga tapa, East Coast, are visiting relatives in Cambridge. Before returning, to the Coast they will pay a visit to Coromandel.
