WOMEN’S DIVISION MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Monday. Mr E. Mair spoke to the ladies upon the education of the Wind. He stressed the fact that children should enter at the age of six, and asked the W.D.F.F. to help the Sunshine Home for infant babies. Mrs Prowse reported that she had been successful in gaining hostesses for sailors.

Mrs Peake was accorded hearty thanks for her donation of, a cake for a competition which gave £9 3s 6d towards the £25 6s 9d passed on August 29 to the 0. & G. Appeal. It was decided to send a parcel per month to Britain, the first to go to Mrs Sullivan, once resident in Cambridge, and ndw in Kent. A letter of thanks, care of Mrs Atkins, is being sent to the ladies of Buckland Road district, thanking them for jam supplied to go to the Wai„ kato Hospital. Mrs Archer won a prize cake donated by Miss Marshall, Mrs Prowse won the wandering shilling competition. Prizes in handwork: Mrs O’Neill 1, Mrs McCandlish 2, Miss Ariell 3. ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED .

Mr and Mrs McL. T. Clephane, of St. Heliers, announce the engagement of their younger daughter, Vivienne Doris, to Colin Vosper, only son of Mr and Mrs E. G. Martyn, of Cambridge. Y.P.C. NEWS BASKETBALL POPULAR A large attendance of Y.P.C. members were gathered in the Leamington Hall for a general meeting recently. An outing committee was appointed in R. Singleton, M. Cornwall, D. Hutchison and L. Singleton. It was proposed to hold a viceversa dance and it was decided it should be left in the hands of the dance committee. After business had been discussed all present enjoyed games of indoor basketball. During ‘the past few months basketball has been played in the Leamington Hall with as many as ten teams taking part. Frequent visits have been made to Morrinsville and Matamata clubs to play friendly games. The ping pong dub has been active with three tables being in much demand on club nights. YOUNG PEOPLE’S DANCE The Leamington Hall was effectively decorated on Saturday night for the monthly dance of the Y.P.C. A very friendly and enjoyable evening was' spent by all. The novelty dances being won by Beverley Nickle and J. Ryan, Miriam Anderson (Wellington) and G. Goughian (Auckland). A dainty supper was set out on decorated- tables and served by girls of the club. Among those present were: Misses N. Perom, R. Singleton, J. Kernoghan, F. Missen, L. Hirst, G. Atkinson, F. Baymes (Opunake), C. Kernoghan, N. Paton, B. Nickle, L. Morrow, J. Lynds, M. Boyce, I.
