FROM TEE TO GREEN

Keen Interest in Trophy Match PLAY ON CAMBRIDGE LINKS WIN FOR W. WILKINSON The lift-and-place rule was effective on the Cambridge Golf Links for the last time this season at the weekend, when the scoring was again excellent. ■ On Saturdays an 18-hole stableford was played for a trophy donated by Father F. E. Quinn, and a large field took part. The winner was Bill Wilkinson with 36 points. He has been showing glimpses of form this season, but this was easily his best round. His medal was 89-22-67, and his handicap has been reduced 'to 20.

With 35 points, Alan Turney was the runner-up. He maintained the good form which won him the fourth flight of the Captain's trophy competition a week earlier, his medal round being 89-22-67. He, too, has been reduced to 20. At Matamata the next day in the Waikato Junior Championships, Turney was successful in winning the day’s stableford with scores bf 34 and 32. At the 7th he holed his third shot from a hundred yards out for an “eagle,” and five stableford points. Other good cards on Saturday were handed in by A. McCann and H. C. Tod, 34; C. Boyce, W. Ryan, R. Boucher, J. R. Haworth, G. W. Allen, 33; R. A. Waite, D. McCathie, H. Betts, E. J. F. Kennedy, 32; J. Richardson, R. H, Feisst, C. E. Hargraves, B.

Farquhar, W. Rice and C. G. Vosper, 31. Week-end Bogey Playing his best round for 14 years, R. Ireland, had the best medal figures of 83-17-6 and he finished one up on bogey. However this was not good enough to win, as C. E. Hargraves came to light with a score of two up. His medal was 77'9-68, Last week in a friendly game, W. Bobbettee, played an excellent round of 75-13-62, and as a result his handicap was reduced to 11. He proved on Saturday last that his reduction was justified by returning a card of 81-11-70. Saturday’s Arrangements There will be no di’aw on Saturday, and players will arrange their own partners and opponents for a fourball best ball medal. The following Saturday qualifying rounds will be played for the championships. R.S.A. Tournament Arrangements are now in hand for the fifth annual R.S’.A. tournament in Cambridge, which will be held on November 2. Excellent prizes are being offered, the cups and trophies being valued at £IOO. The tournament convener is Mr J. W. Jeans and the secretary, Mr Colin Clark. The programme will include the 36 hole senior championship gross, for the Calvert, cup and the 36 hole junior gross for the Goosman cup. The best net score of the day carries with it the Cambridge Home Guard Battalion challenge cup. There will also be senior and junior medal handicaps in the morning and senior and junior Stableford Handicaps in the afternoon, as well as a non-handicap event.
