Offensive Behaviour. At the monthly sitting of the Magistrate’s Court before Mr S. L. Patterson, yesterday, Ronald Clarke, a freezing works employee, of Horotiu, was convicted and fined £3 and costs, 10/-, for offensive behaviour in a public place—Duke Street —at 6.15 on the evening of Wednesday, July 23. With another man he was found by the local police committing a nuisance in a doorway. The other man appeared before the local court last court day. It was stated that Clarke was under the influence of liquor. Price Control Offences. There were 50 convictions during July for breaches of the Price Control Regulations, the fines amounting to £97. The prosecutions concerned goods sold at Auckland, Masterton, Wellington, Huntlv, Palmerston North, Christchurch, Paeroa and at several towns on the West Coast, and related to the sale of beef, mutton, pears, potatoes, onions, plums, tomatoes dates, peaches, pumpkins, cabbages, honey, frocks, drapery and brandy. During July a further 145 State rental houses and flats were allocated to ex-servicemen under the scheme whereby they are allocated half of those becoming available for occupation.
