WOMEN'S INSTITUTES MEETING IN CAMBRIDGE The monthly meeting of the newly formed Cambridge Women's Institute was held in the Parish Hall when Mrs L. F. Johnson presided over an enthusiastic gathering. Thirteen new members were enrolled bringing the membership to 36. The new members were warmly welcomed by the president. Some sound suggestions were offered in response to the roll call "how we as. ah institute can benefit the communtiy." Appeals were made for old linen for the Campbell Johnston Ward in Hamilton, toys for the local Plunket rooms and stamps and cellophane for the lepers. demonstrations on the art of line and wood-cut work showing some beautiful examples of this , class of work done by masters of the art. Mrs Johnson also gave the first of a series ©f monthly 10 minute talks on work for the month in the garden, giving demonstrations on how to take and * treat carnation and chrysanthemum cuttings. Both ladies were accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Competition results were as follows: Most- useful article from oddments of wool, Mrs Atkinson 1, Mrs J. I. Clarke 2, Mrs Harlock 3; best arrangement of leaves or berries, Mrs Johnson 1, Mrs Atkinson 2, Mrs Geddes 3. An excellent programme has been arranged for the August meeting when the hostesses will be Mesdames Williams, Worthing, Harlock and Andrews.
