Car Stolen But Did Not Know It
CAMBRIDGE MAN'S EXPERIENCE RECOVERED IN ROTORUA The unusual experience of a person having had his car stolen for a fortnight without knowing anything about it, until the vehicle was found, befel Mr George Cleland, of Cambridge, recently. Actually Mr Cleland is the posessor of two cars, and before he left for a holiday in the South Island, he parked one car, a Singer, in the double garage of Mr Wilfred Cubis, in Alpha Street. Early in January,. Mr Cubis noticed that the lock had been broken off the door of the garage, but knowing that Mr Cleland was due home, thought that he must have lost his key and forced the door open to get his car.
Mr Cleland returned home recently and decided to leave the car in Mr Cubis' garage for a few days longer. However the scene changed during the week when he received a ring from the Cambridge police asking him if his car had been stolen. To this his answer was "no," until he was informed further.that a Singer car the same number as his had been abandoned at Rotorua on January 6. The situation became apparent when he had a talk with Mr Cubis. At the week-end Mr Cleland proceeded to Rotorua and collected his car. It was undamaged and well filled with oil and benzine, but a number : of tools were missing.
