Labour Majority of Four Seats

RESULT OF OFFICIAL COUNT

BAXTER IN FOR RAGLAN The official recount of doubtful seats in the general election has been completed making the state of the parties:— Labour 42 National 38 This figure represents a slight change from election night returns when Labour held 43 seats and National 37. The only result to be reversed was in St. Albans where the Government lead of 76 was changed by the official count to a National majority of 86. In Otaki, the National candidate, Mr J. J. Maher, increased his majority over Mr J. Thorn from 11 to 44. The last doubtful return to be announced was that of Raglan, where the final count resulted:— A. C. Baxter (Labour) 6910 H. Johnstone (National) 6871 Majority for Baxter 39 On the first count, Mr Baxter had a majority of 45, the figures being:— Mr Baxter 6425, Mr Johnstone 6380.
