NEW ZEALAND LIFE

New Zealand is first-class news in the United States of America and other overseas countries where there is a growing demand for wider knowledge of its social services, industry, sport, and tourist attractions. This is evidenced by the number of requests for material for publication abroad and for reproduction of photographic subjects dealing with New Zealand’s natural attractions, sport and life and work of her people- Another request just received by the Department of Tourist and Health Resorts for a general article with “tourist emphasis” comes from a San Francisco newspaper.

“The increased interest in this country in the U.S.A. has undoubtedly been engendered by returned services prsonnel who lately had personal contact with New Zealand, to some extent by New Zealand wives of American servicemen, and also by the fact that this is at present the southernmost terminal of American Trans-Pacific air services,” said the Minister in charge of the department, Mr Parry. “Many New Zealanders may not appreciate that ties with the United States extend back to the earliest whaling days of the late 18th century, that rugged gold seekers came here from California in the 1860’s; that miners from New Zealand followed the rush to the Klondike, and that many years before the United States forces were stationed here there were strong trade and tourist links between the two countries.”
