REQUEST TO PARENTS

SCHOOL OF AGRICULTURE ESTIMATING ROLL NUMBER For the purpose of obtaining reliable information regarding the probable numbers of boarder-pupils who would attend the proposed South Auckland Agricultural High School if the school were established next year, the Auckland Education Board is requesting parents to send it particulars of prospective enrolments. The stage has been reached where the board has submitted to the Education Department, Wellington, a definite application for the establishment of the school. A definite indication of the probable roll number would materially support the statement made by the board. The special committee of the Auckland Education Board, which has done much in obtaining information to indicate the great necessity of an agricultural high school in the district, is confident that with the, active co-operation of all those interested that the establishment of the school will be achieved in the not too distant future.

The site approved by the advocates for the school is at Fencourt, Cambridge. It is a farm property of 715 acres owned ; by Messrs W. R. Beer and Son. and known as “Pleasant View.” The area is ideal for the purpose of an agricultural high school, being centrally situated and with soil types eminently suited to agricultural instruction. It is well watered and there are several buildings on the property. The establishment of an agricultural high school at Fencourt would be of great benefit not only to the Waikato district but also to all districts in the South Auckland area. It would be the first agricultural high school established in the Dominion, the nearest approach to an agi’iculfcural high school at oresent being technical schools specialising in agricultural instruction. The Auckland Education Board has had the active support of farming organisations in the district in its campaign to have such a school established and rareiy has a project been taken uo with such enthusiasm in the district’s farming circles.
