MEMORIAL PARK

IMPROVEMENTS TO GROUNDS ERECTION OF DRESSING SHEDS Due almost entirely to the km'd work of a band of Rugby enthusiasts, the new football grounds at Memorial Park have been transformed from what was an open paddock/to a reasonably well appointed /recreational centre. There is still L tremendous amount to be done, and/of course public stands are not yet provided, but the Cambridge Rugb/ Union is to be congratulated oil what has biden accomplished in a Je/ r short weeks. There is no qpubt that. the new grounds are going to (give Rugby a new lease of life in Cambridge—that is already evident. The attendances so far have exceeded expectations, and as well as helping the union financially the moral support given to the players by public enthusiasm must be good for. the code. The fact that four games can be played on the grounds in one afternoon is much appreciated by spectators, and provides added encouragement to the players in the lower grades.

This week further improvements have been carried out at the park in preparation for the big day to-morrow week, when eight representative teams from Waikato Sub-unions will be seen in action. As had been announced previously, in both senior and juniorgrades, Cambridge will play Morrinsville and Matamata will meet Waipa. The Waikato selectors will be present to sum up the merits of the players prior to selecting the representative team to play Auckland on the King’s Birthday.

The most important work now being carried out is the removal of the dressing sheds from Victoria Square and the re-erection of them at Memorial .Park, This undertaking is being carried out voluntarily by a working bee headed by Mr C. Kelly. It had been hoped to have the building ready for use to-morrow, but rain has caused delays, and it may not now be available until next week. A feature of the sheds will be the provision of hot and cold showers. Borough water is laid on to the ground, and the water will be heated by means of an old engine boiler which* has been purchased, and will be in-, stalled during the coming week. A tarpaulin muster at the annual meeting of the Rugby Sub-union formed the nucleus of the fund which enabled the hot water system to be secured.
