CAMBRIDGE EXHIBITION DAY SATURDAY NEXT As previously reported Cambridge is to have a Rugby League football exhibition day at Victoria Square on Saturday next. There will be five visiting teams here that day including the Ponsonby and Mt. Albert seniors, who will provide the star attraction of an all-afternoon programme. Not for many years has league football been seen in Cambridge and the presence of these two prominent Auckland teams should alone be sufficient to attract a very large attendance. These teams are recognised as exponents of fast spectacular League. Several representative players, who took part in the North v. South match last Saturday will be hi the teams, including Nordgren, the Auckland crack three-quarter. The curtain-raiser will be provided by the Ponsonby Club's third grade team and the Huntly Maori junior team —Tanawharau. The Maori team is reported to play fine football and this match should be most interesting. Then the visiting Ponsonby Fourth grade will divide to provide a seven-a-side game of two 10-minute spells. Our readers will be circularised in Wednesday's issue when further details will be published. The net proceeds, of Saturday's Exhibition Day will be donated $o the Cambridge Rehabilitation Auxiliary's 'Kiwi" Flats. North Defeat South. The North v. South Island League match at Carlaw Park on Saturday resulted in a win for North by 18 points to 8. The half-time score was B—6 in favour of South. The attendance was estimated at 15,000. Rugby Championship. ' At Eden Park on Saturday last Whenuapai defeated Ponsonby 8 points to 3 to win the 1945 championship.
