OBITUARY

MR JOHN ROIGARD The death of Mr John Roigard, which took place last week, removes an old and highly respected resident. The deceased, who was born in Denmark, left his native country 75 years ago, being then eight years old. His people settled in the Masterton di»trict where he was married. He came to Pukeatua 34 years ago where he engaged in farming until three and a half years ago when he retired to live in Te Awamutu. During the latter period he did not have good health. Mr Roigard did not take- an active part in local affairs, but he was a good neighbour and a splendid type of pioneer who did much to lay the solid foundation of the district in which he lived. He is survived by his wife, five sons, Charles (Papatoetoe), Mads (Ngo»gotaha), Arthur (Pukeatua), John and Ray (Karapiro), and three daughters, Mrs E. Hunter (Pukeatua), Stanford (Rotorua), Hall (Te Awamutu), to whom the sympathy of a wide circle of friends has been extended. There are twenty _ grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The funeral, which was largely attended! was conducted by the Rev. K. L. Warren. Prior to the cortege moving off for the Pukeatua Cemetery a service was held in the Kihikihi Presbyterian Church. The pall-bearers were Messrs Charles, Arthur, John and Ray Roigard, sons of the deceased. Many beautiful floral tributes were further evidences of sympathy and respect.
