THE BUCKLAND FAMILY • _ YALE UNIVERSITY AWARD Whenever the early days of Cambridge and this borough are spoken of then almost certainly will the name cf Buckland be associated for it was the head of this family who was a one-time Mayor. A. man of forceful character was William F. Buckland and he left his mark on this borough for all time. But it is not of the head of the family of Buckland that we wish to particularly mention. It is of a grandson—Donajd C. Buckland, of Vancouver and Victoria. Thanks to a relative in Onehunga we received a few days ago a cutting from a Canadian newspaper and it stated: ‘The degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Forestry has been awarded at Yale University to Donald , C. Buckland, of Vancouver and Victoria, who has specialised in the study of decays and defects of western cedar in British Columbia. He has worked as forest pathologist for the Dominion Government, in Victoria for the last three years. He was educated in Vancouver schools, received his B.A. and U.B.C. in 1941, and B.S.F. in 1942, his Master of Forestry at Yale in 1949Porn in New Zealand, he is the son of the late Charles Channing Buckland and Mrs G. N. Buckland, 5942 Trafaglar. He was recently married to Miss Jean Kirstine Adam and they make their home in Victoria.” Old identities will recall that the C. C. Buckland, son of the late 'William F. Buckland, was the former owner of the well-known farm and homestead of “Monavale,” now the property of the Clemow Estate. Donaid C. Buckland is the fourth son of Mi's and the late Charles Channing Buckland, The oldest son, Frank, is now a consulting engineer fm- ;\ big gold mining company in Quebec.
