As reported elsewhere in this issue the Cambridge Borough Council, at its monthly meeting on Wednesday evening last, decided unanimously to adopt an amended agreement for a continuation of the supply of water to the Leamington Town Board. This agreement has now been arrived at following communications between the two bodies over disputed accounts for excess water charges, and following a conference between representatives of the Council and the Town Board.

The features of the amended agreement are the future supply, except for those consumers drawing directly from the. Council’s pipeline, of water through live or six master meters; and of an annual minimum charge of £3OO. The rate of Is. per 1000 gallons is the same as previously, but in the old agreement there was no minimum amount fixed.

The provision of master meters is a very sensible and satisfactory one from the Council’s viewpoint. It should do away with a lot, if not all, the previous trouble and friction caused by the excess water charges. Previously the Council had to cope with a large number of individual meters in fixing its excess water accounts and in addition to the disputing of the accounts, the Council had to face loss of revenue through wastage of much water. All this should be obviated with the master meters.

The interest and sinking fund Leamington Board has to provide annually to continue paying off the original £IOOO from the Council remains the same as before.

The new agreement is certainly a great improvement on the old conditions, though we are of the opinion that the Leamington Board is not being overcharged at Is per 1000 gallons. ,
