SCENIC RESERVE
AT MAUNGATAUTARI
AREA LAND PRIVATELY PURCHASED There has been a keen desire on the part of those interested] in these parts to see „as much of the bush areas on the Maungatautari and Maungakawa ranges retained as possible. These are about the last areas of native bush in the Cambridge district and they are of paramount importance as watersheds.
At MaungaiautaYi there is a considerable protected area and it was desired that this should be added to by the Government acquiring further areas adjoining. Cambridge is particularly interested in one area on the Cambridge side of the range, because it is associated with the area from which the borough wafer supply is obtained. The Member for the district (Mr W. S. Goosman) had been urging the Government to acquire this particular area, but apparently the Government has let it slip through its hands for recently it was acquired by a well-known Pukekura resident. Yesterday Mr Goosman was in Cambridge on his way to inspect the area which is one of 756-acres, but as he mentioned to our representative it seems there is little that 'can be done about it now. In company with representatives of the Waipa County Council Mr Goosman inspected the area of land in the course of an inspection of Waipa County roads.
