Bids at £2,200 a Minute.—An average of £ll Is a gallon was paid for 195 hogshead of single-malt Highland whisky at the recent auction of a Glasgow distiller's estate. The value of the whisky before the war was 5s a gallon. With bidding rising at the rate of £2200 a minute, the entire quantity was knocked down in 50 minutes'for the astonishing total of £II,OOO. Buyers, mostly anonymous, came from all parts of [Britain.
