Lamb Born at Motumaoho.— Though lambing is not usually expected to commence in the Waikato until the beginning of August, a ewe lamb has been born on Mr C. McCulloch’s property at Motumaoho, and has caused a great deal of interest. 1600 Pikelets.—To make, butter, and sell 1600 pikelets in one day at Id a piece, was a task accomplished by two Hokitika women, who, incidentally, were grandmothers, at a recent shop day for patriotic purposes at Greymouth. Their efforts netted a return of £6 13/4.
Fifty Danger Points.— Cambridge district users of the bitumen-sealed main highway between Hamilton and Te Awamutu will be interested in a surveyor 's opinion of this route. Giving evidence recently, he asserted that there were at least 50 danger points between the two towns. They comprised intersections, rises, twisty, and bends in the road.
Great Production Effort. —“ It is really astounding when we consider that the Old Country has been * up against it,’ lighting for her very life for the last two years, and yet she manages to send us this, first-class fire hose,” said Mr T. M. Charters, chairman of the Christchurch Fire Board, at that board’s meeting, when the receipt of 5750 feet of fire hose was announced.
Traffic Inspector’s Risk. “A traffic inspector speeds at his own risk, and if he smashes his car it is his own fault. I think plaintiff took the corner at an excessive speed and suffered the consequences.” This was Mr Justice Johnston’s final summing up in dismissing u traffic inspector’s claim for £075 for injuries received through his car overturning while pursuing a speeding motorist.
