SEVEN MONTHS’ KILLINGS
FEWER LAMBS—MORE MUTTON
The official figures of killings for the present season at the Dominion’s freezing .works from October 1 till May 2, as issued by the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, show that lamb killings to that date total 9,838,416 carcasses, this being a decrease of 53,092 carcasses, and ewe mutton killings 1,833,634 carcasses, compared with 540,447 and 1,382(949 carcasses respectively last season. Details of the lamb and mutton killings in the North and South Islands, with figures for the previous season in parentheses are as follows:
North Island.—Lamb (carcasses), 5,340,504 (5,279,293); wether button (carcasses), 662,356 (469,761); ewe mutton (carcasses), 1,108,050 (868,790),
South Island.—Lamb (carcasses), 4,497,912 (4,613,115); wether mutton (carcasses), 71,274 (70,686): rwe mutton (carcasses), 725,584 (514,159).
Frozen beef production is now 328.357 quarters, compared 441,687 Quarters last season. Porker killings total 161.060 carcasses, an increase of 11,067, whilst baepner total 216,271 carcasses, a decrease of 80,237.
