CHILDREN ON FARMS

-HELP WITH THE MILKING

EARLIER CLOSING OF SCHOOLS

WANTED

Representations from Te Kowhai householders to the Auckland Education Board to curtail the luncheon interval and to close the school half an hour earlier to allow older boy pupils to assist with milking were lonsideed at a board meeting. Mr W. I- Bowyer (Otorohanga) said there was a marked shortage of labour on farms. The board should find out if the children were needed at home.

Mr. S. B. Sims (Hamilton) said that even if the board did not concede the request, the children would still have to do the milking, and that would mean they would be kept up later at night. ,The board decided to seek further details of the proposal.
