HOME GUARD
NEW MAUNGATAUTARI UNIT
APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED
The following appointments and promotions are made in the new Maungatautari Platoon of B Company of the Home Guard, according to battalion orders issued at last night’s parade by the commanding oflicer (Major R. S. Alford): — J. \V. Watson to be temporary lieutenant, Corporal D. W. Ariell to be sergeant, A. G. Burgess and J. H. Hicks to be corporals. , As well as having four years and a-half service and winning the military medal, Lieut. Watson, the commander of the new platoon, has had considerable military experience, including five years’ territorial serviie before the war of 1914-18, and 10 years’ further service since that date. He held the rank of lieutenant in the territorials. Until recently he was serving in the National Military Reserve.
Corporal Burgess is a new arrival in the district. Formerly a platoon commander in the Raglan Battalion, he has now relinquished his commission in the Home Guard.
