LANDSCAPE TARGET

PAINTED IN CAMBRIDGE

HOME GUARD TRAINING

For the first time this week, the members of the Cambridge Home Guard have been using for their training a huge landscape target. It measures 18ft. by 74ft and is a masterpiece of design and painting. The , original picture was drawn by Mrs A. D. Bluck, the wife of the Intelligence Officer, who is wellknown for her pen-and-ink work. The general plan had been outlined by Mr F. H. Green, the commander of Headquarters Company. The enlargement and painting of the target is being done by Mr .1. D. Bright, a member of the Intelligence section. He expects to have the work completed this week-end. The landscape is invaluable for night training, and occasions when trips into open country are not possible. Instruction in traversing, map reading, and target location will be made much easier. At the present time, the target is on the stage at the Town Hall, and its size is such that it can be used by several sections at once in various parts of the hall..

The target presents a clearly defined panorama. Stretching away in the distance to high hills, and at one place a corner of sea, are roads, rivers, cuttings, bridges, paddocks; hedges, haystacks, trees, a distant township, and many other lan/I: marks which can be used in demon: strating military tactics.
