LIBERAL GIVING

POST OFFICE EMPLOYEES DONATIONS EACH PAY DAY

The members of the staff of the Cambridge Post Office, along with their colleagues throughout New Zealand are among the most consistent and liberal of contributors to patriotic funds. ■ In March, 1940, a scheme was commenced whereby every post office employee contributed a certain amount each pay day to the patriotic fund. During the first twelve months £OOOO was raised for the provision of comforts and amenities for the troops. Of the total, £4OOO was earmarked for the National Patriotic Fund, and £2OOO was paid to the Provincial Patriotic Funds on the basis of the amounts collected in each provincial district. In many other ways have post office employees assisted the war effort. As an instance, in Cambridge, every member of the staff has contributed to the National Savings Scheme.

There are many other channels through which they are asked to give—for instance, in the Wellington Victory Queen Carnival, the Post Office Princess was supported to the extent of £8,990, much of which represented cash donations by officers of all branches in Wellington.
