MORE CONNECTIONS

POWER BOARD PROGRESS REPORT OF THE ENGINEER / There was a net gain of 13 connections to the Cambridge Power Board’s lines during the past month, according to the report of the engineer, Mr H. C. Oaten, which was presented at the September meeting. Total connections now number 1923. Eight milking motors were installed during the period, as well as 14 water heaters and three ranges. In addition, six separators, one shearing plant and one pump were added. Work was commenced on overhauling Redoubt Road line and half a mile had been finished. New copper was run and poles renewed. Advantage was taken during rebuilding to adopt 11,000-volt construction so that a change-over to that voltage could be done when required. Due to the new road to the Ivarapiro works, major alterations are required <at the point where this road joins the main road. This will involve the removing of three poles now interfering with traffic and the replacement of them in new positions. As a result of added load on the Monavale line and also to normal growth, it was found necessary to remove the old current transformers at Leamington substation and replace these with larger ones. Fortunately the board had the necessary sizes in stock and the job was done on Monday night. The overloading of switch-gear was the cause of interruptions of late and the remedy had now been applied.
