XXI. CLARK, George Edward. Born in Cambridgeshire in 1840, George Edward Clark came to New Zealand in the ship "Jumna" in 1864, and „three years later, as a young man of 27, settled with his wife at Pukeroro. His association with the Cambridge district lasted for nearly sixty years. During that time he organised the Cambridge Farmers' Club, and served as a member of various local bodies, including the Waikato County Council, Cambridge Road Board and Cambridge Borough Council. He was also a life mombcr of the Cambridge Bowling Club. He founded the well-known Waikato firm of G. E. Clark and Sons, Ltd., which is now carried on by his sons. His family included Messrs William Edward Clark (born at Cambridge in 1867), and Harry Herbert Clark, of Hamilton (1871); George Allan Clark (1875), and ' Alfred Richard Clark (1877), of Cambridge; Mrs A. W. Gane (1873), of Cambridge; and Mrs A. R. Cox (1882), of Roto-o-rangi. One son, Edwin Wilfred Clark (1879) and one daughter, Annie Elizabeth Clark (1869), predeceased their father, who died on Bth September, 1935, at the age of 94. Mrs Clark, who was formerly Miss Elizabeth Garlick, died in 1913.
