BRUTE FORCE

The term includes the police force, sea, land, and air forces of all countries, including Andorra, force majeure, forcemeat, and forceps. Strangely enough it also includes people like Hitler, whose maturity—to adapt one dictionary definition of force— Unust have been "artificially hastened," judging by results. For years the world has been full of, and full up- of, all sorts of strong men who have been continually in a fuehrer and playing the duce with all and sundry, until half of Europe is completely

up the pole with scarcely a finn to flap. A typical Communist

communing with a fellow Communist, is a fair example of what I

mean. It would serve right these Nazis (nasty brutes) who browbeat peaceful citizens of little countries, if the latter

turned the tables (you can imagine, if you like, that the fellow underneath is Hitler, although I can't see 4 his moustache, can you?). Coming nearer home, even wrestlers

are uncommonly unkind to each other. It was Milton, or U Allegro, or somebody who once said, "who overcomes by- force hath overcome but half his foe." The surviving half

wisely beats it for the horizon to avoid being completely devoured—which provides an apt illustration of a scientific definition of force: "measurable influence inclining bodv to motion!" But I digress.

Most wrestlers know better than to try any

tough tactics at home. The gentler sex have a way with them, and a way with husbands, that isn't always gentle. Some of them (that is the gentle, or unfair, sex)

won't stand any nonsense from any man who ventures to disagree with them, and if he tries to protest, he soon finds himself

trying to explain the unexplainable to an unsympathetic gentleman who has all the force and majesty of the law on his side. It's all very unfair. By the way, it just occurred to> me. What a pity Hitler's isn't married.
