SUPPLY OF PETROL

EXHIBITORS AT SHOWS SPECIAL FACILITIES GRANTED An announcement that special facilities for petrol licences would be given to exhibitors at agricultural and pastoral shows was conveyed to Mr W. F. O’Donnell, managing secretary of the Auckland Metropolitan Agricultural and Pastoral Association and secretary of the northern district council of the Royal Agricultural Society, in a telephone conversation with the oil fuel controller at Wellington. The news is of particular interest, to the Cambridge district in view of the Centennial Show of the Waikato Central Agricultural Association at the racecouse next month. In recent weeks agricultural show officials have expressed concern at the effect petrol restrictions were likely to have on entries and attendances at forthcoming fixtures and representations were made by a number of associations in the Auckland Province (including the Waikato Central) emphasising the difficulties facing them. When the position was first put before the oil fuel controller at Wellington he advised local controllers that sympathetic consideration should be given to applications fpr special licences for shpw judges and officers and that requests from exhibitors should be considered on their merits. This concession was not regarded as satisfactory, and ij was considered that exhibitors, more than anyone else, should haye the maximum facilities to sepd their stock to the shows. It meant that the* success of shows yvouid largely depend on the treatment applications received from local controllers. The decision announced jby the controller at Wellington was welcomed, said Mr o*Donnell, who stated that if names of exhibitors are forwarded to their local controllers. by show secretaries sufficient petrol will; be made available for them to attend events.
