CHALLENGE RACE POLO PONY AND RACEHORSE - -V, • ' As the result of a challenge an interesting horse race was staged on the Paeroa racecourse a few days ago between a polo pony, Reihaiki, owned by Mr M. Bailey of Paeroa, and the racehorse Chifcara, owned by Mr F. Handley, also of Paeroa. The distance was over three furlongs and the conditions were that owners were to be up. The polo pony took the lead early in. the race and held this position until the end of the first two furlongs when the lack of training and proper feed told and Chikara went to the front to win as he ? liked. The race, which was held at 8 o’clock in. the morning, created considerable interest and a small crowd of some twenty enthusiasts were present to witness the match.
