xii ' v - BRUCE,. Rev. Thomas. Born in 1826 in Ayrshire, the Rev. Thomas Bruce came to New Zealand in 1871 for health reasons, and settled at Taotaoroa the same year. His wife, Jane Allan Bruce, was born in 1840. They were married in Wales. Their family included Mrs Eliza C. Lupis, of Taotaoroa, born in Wales in 1870; Mrs Fanny L. Mitchell, Leamington; Mrs Margaret M. J. Smith, Thames; John Bruce, Taotaoroa; : the late Alexander M. A. Bruce; Miss Nora T. M. Bruce, Taotaoroa; William F. Bruce, Taotaoroa; and the late Mrs Mabel C. Harsant. One of the leading pioneer settlers of the Taotaoroa district, the Rev. Mr Bruce did not practice his calling as a Presbyterian minister in New Zealand. He was chairman of the Taotaoroa School Committee for some time. He died in 1910 at the age of 84. Mrs Bruce died in 1922, aged 80.
